Happy Teacher's Day!
Teachers can contribute a lot to our academic, sports, and personal growth. A teacher can make or break someone's interest in a subject or field. We all have had our share of good and bad teachers. Teachers who teach a subject with so much passion, build your interest in the subject (or at least help you survive the subject like Maths), guide you where needed, motivate you when you doubt yourself, build your confidence, etc. Their teaching and general behavior is so good that you attend lecture out of interest, and not merely for 75% attendance.
In contrast, I've also had teachers because of whom my interest in the subject dipped and now I am quite miserable at it (my Hindi getting worse is what hurts me the most). It was so much so that if I happened to see them in public, I would run away before they could see me😂
My interest in English started during 10th board exams when my English teacher in tuitions would give positive feedback for the answers we were given to write (she would assess the answers to see if they were of quality for writing in the board exam). Those feedback were the starting point for my confidence in writing in English (this mattered a lot for an extremely reserved teenager who used to be scared to talk to anyone), writing became my comfort place and my interest in English literature, which has grown only multifold thereafter. Credits also go to my English professors in college for their constant support.
Literature and cinema also have many amazing teachers. Here is the list of some of the best teachers from the books and movies/series I have read/seen-
- Morrie Schwartz from Tuesdays With Morrie- Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom tells the story of the author who gets back in touch with his college professor, who going through a terminal illness, after more than a decade. They meet every Tuesday thereafter, where Morrie teaches Mitch a lesson. The book teaches a lot of lessons related to various aspects of life. It is one of my favourite books. In my opinion, this can be the best dedication to teachers you revere a lot.

Image Source- IMDb - Anne Sullivan from The Story of My Life- Helen Keller's teacher who taught Helen from the age of 3 till her death in 1936. A teacher who with patience, taught Helen, who lost her sight and hearing at the age of 19 months.

Image Source- Wikipedia - Naina Mathur from Hichki- With empathy and patience, she changed the lives for the better of students from the financially lower section of society, who were looked down upon and not supported by other teachers or batchmates.
Image Source- Yash Raj Films - Shams of Tabriz from The Forty Rules of Love- Though he is not exactly a teacher, his lessons on love, spirituality and humanity are so apt!
Image Source- Amazon India - Randy from The Last Lecture- The book is autobiographical kind, and meant as a memoir for his young kids who would lose their father soon to cancer. Written by Randy Pausch, who was a professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, wrote about life in the most simple way possible.

- The Midnight Library- There is no teacher, but the philosophy in the book makes you retrospect. Loaded with philosophy and quotes, though it is not preaching type and the flow of the story is good. Though there is repetition which does get exhaustive and kind of boring, the book overall is a 100.

You loudly appreciated the impact of different teacher/ teachers either as person or in any other forms, in step to step up gradation of your personality is admirable. There will be endless number of teachers at different levels on the horizon of life. You also condemned your Hindi teacher instead I suggest you should search another Hindi teacher befitting your requirement. That will make your hindi presentable and help to remove your bitterness for him and add pleasure.
ReplyDeleteTrue. I have been trying to find Hindi teacher or try to get into Hindi literature, right from the basic level. And thank you.
