Alibaug- The relaxing getaway

Online classes have turned out to be boring. Though having our own 'pawri ho rahi hai' moment by turning off the camera and mic and sleeping, I (and all of us) needed a real break. So for the beach bum I am, Alibaug seemed the right option.

So here I was, along with my cousins (family get-together), for a vacation.

The morning ferry ride from Gateway of India to Mandwa jetty promises to give you Insta worthy photos (as long as you have good photography skills😅).

If you are a bird lover, you can also give chips and biscuits to the birds near the Gateway of India on your ferry ride.

Touching down at Alibaug after the 1-1½hr ferry ride, you can either check-in into your hotel/rented villa or head straight for the beach.

We opted for a magic ride (vehicle in Alibaug that looks like auto with open windows are called magic) on the way to our villa. With around 6-7 bags and 18 people into the one magic, chatting away, we had no idea that one of our bags had fell off on the road from behind. It was the goodness of the people of Alibaug that a bus driver followed our magic and gave us the bag. Thanks to those people on that bus.

After having checked into our rented villa (named 29 Bungalows by Village Aroma) and spending time there till evening 5:30, we headed to the Nagaon beach. The water sports experience there was amazing. I did the Banana ride and Jet Ski. Both water sports were a nice adrenaline rush. But they ended the Jet Ski within just 2mins. I suggest that if you plan to do water sports, start it at 5 pm itself. And get your water sports done on Friday evening or Sunday morning around 8-8:30 am. As of Saturday, the beach is very packed and crowded, and you may not be able to enjoy it so much.

If you do not like getting wet in water and you are a reader, sitting on the beach sand, reading a book with the sun setting on the horizon, turning the sky orange and yellow, will be a peaceful experience and something to remember.

Day 2
We headed for Murud Janjira fort by 10-11 am. From our villa, it was 1½ hour magic ride. Then 30-40mins of the boat ride and another small boat for a few mins. In the 2nd boat, the people would give you the instructions and information about the fort (all of which went from above my head😅). I didn't like that fort as much. It didn't seem as well preserved as forts of Rajasthan. Also any historical site is incomplete without a guide. Having spent almost 2 hours for it didn't seem that valuable for me. But if you are a history enthusiast, you may like it.

After Murud Janjira, the next stop was Kashid beach. But having reached there around 4 pm (reach there by morning if you wish to do it), the heat was too much and the beach was crowded as well. So my family decided to drop the Kashid plan due to heat and COVID concerns, which turned out to better afterwards.

The Birla temple after the Kashid beach was a nice retreat. Though I didn't have the option to say no to the temple in an unknown region (I am not a religious person and hence avoid temples), the architecture and the silence there felt nice.

Being back again to Nagaon beach in the evening, we played in the water for a little while and later dodgeball on the beach. We felt relieved that we played water sports the previous day (on Friday) only after seeing the crowd for water sports on Saturday evening.

Back on Nagaon beach again in the morning on the 3rd day (as it is near to our rented villa), it was even better. Playing in water, getting pics clicked, and doing some stupid fun made the day. If you like cycling, rent a cycle to ride on the beach.

Just posing😜

The trip was memorable and a nice break. But it's a humble request to please wear masks (maybe except while taking pics), use sanitiser, follow social distancing norms, get yourself checked for COVID before going to any tourist place if you do not wish to ruin all the experiences by getting infected with COVID or getting your closed ones infected.

Happy travelling!
