Eradicating phobias against LGBTQIA+ community
Biphobia
Transphobia
And don't know what all phobias are against people belonging to LGBTQ+ community
Homophobia is hate and prejudice against homosexuals. Gays and lesbians. Though we are in 2020 now, part of our society, worldwide, is still stuck on homophobia. Why is it hard for some to accept a same-sex couple who are in that relationship with mutual consent? When it comes to pro-creation, yes, I know that they cannot have a kid of their own (atleast as of now, if technology develops in future, who knows they might be able to?). But parenthood is not everyone's choice. Also if that couple mutually wants kid(s), they can rather adopt a child or way that works for both of them. Though many countries are opening about it, decriminalizing it, and accepting homosexuality, many are still not. Parents disown their homosexual kids (you have failed here as a parent tbh), honour killings take place (even worse), the individual or couple is bullied by many and whatnot. Like heterosexual, homosexual and even bisexuals are born that way (though it's more complex, but this is somewhat an easy scientific evidence/explanation) It is just a chance that they happened to be a member of queer community. It isn't a 'just a phase'. A person can recognise that which sexual orientation they fall into once they are probably in their late teenage (or for some, even in adulthood). Oh, and how the films shows homosexuals, especially gays. It creates unnecessary stereotypes- like all gays have a colourful fashion sense, behaves like girls, apply makeup, blah blah. Some may do so, even heteros may, nothing wrong with it. But this generalisation and stereotyping homosexual males isn't just right. A homosexual couple doing PDA is looked at in digusted ways in many regions and countries, which is quite upsetting. In many places, they have to hide their sexual orientations to save themselves from bullies of any sort. Also, abusing and cussing people with terms related to gays is also homophobia. Actual gays are possibly proud about it. Words that represent gays MUST not be used as an cuss words either.
There have been many movies, series, short films and books based on homosexuality. If you can understand Hindi, Shubh Mangal Zyaada Savdhaan is a really nice movie to watch related to supporting homosexual relationships. If you are or can understand English language, then Netflix series Sex Education would be really good. If there are more such good films, breaking the stereotype against homos and supporting homosexuality (while not degrading other sexual orientations either), in any language, do comment in the comment box. A came across this video- Homosexuality by YFilms, which teach about homosexuality in a simple funny way, especially to explain to kids in age-appropriate manner.
Biphobia - the hatred and prejudice against bisexuals. The stereotypes formed against bisexuals are just another level. "He/she will leave you once they get attracted to person of opposite gender (if dating someone of same gender)" or "he/she will leave you once they get attracted to person of same gender (if dating someone of opposite gender)". Like what?! Don't heterosexuals cheat on their partners? Also there is a term called loyalty. Hetero or LGBTQ+ community, loyalty of a person has a certain effect on making or breaking of a relationship. Then another is "she is 60% hetero, 40% homo" or "he is 60% homo, 40% hetero" (or whatever the proportion is!). No dude, they are 100% bisexuals. Yes, bisexuals are attracted towards both males and females, so they can be in heterosexual or homosexual relationship; but they are 100% bisexuals. Same like with homosexual, they have to hide their sexual orientations to save themselves from bullies of any sort.
Intersex is another not so represented, but still bullied.
Asexuality, that is not much interest in sexual activities (even if romantically interested in someone) is a big spectrum of it's own. To know more, watch it here.
If you speak about India, where homosexuality and bisexuality is shamed upon, the Khajuraho temple was being built in India, back in 950AD-1050AD by Chandela dynasty. Out of 10% of erotic carvings of temple walls, there have been sculptures of homosexuality as well. Also the famous book, Kamasutra, has come from India which also talks about LGBTQ.
Transphobia is one of the most leading phobias I think. Maybe because you can just know trans by looks, while cant recognise homos or bis from looks alone. Hatred and prejudice against transgender people. Why this hatred? Them becoming a transgender wasn't in their hands. Why are they being punished for something which wasn't in their hands? Many are treated like dirt, which is really wrong. We often complain that why do many transgender beg in many places? Ask yourself- have we given them equal opportunity and equality towards education and jobs/business? This phobia needs to be stopped. Education and work opportunities must be given to them.
One may take time to understand about LGBTQIA+ community, but never bully a person for their sexual orientations, it was not in their hands. Just the choice of person whom they date/marry is in their hands. If you cannot say or do anything good & cannot accept them, so better just do not do or say anything bad to them either. A small positive change will make a difference in someone's life. And more we bring this positive change, the more better the world will be for all- heterosexuals and LGBTQIA+ community. Because, love is love. Lets just not hate anyone or spread prejudice related to ANYTHING.
#loveislove.
