Stop violence against women

The crime against women has been ever increasing. Every new day comes with various kinds of crime against women- ranging from as small as eve-teasing (which is uncomfortable too) to as big as acid attacks, rapes, and murders. There has not been a stop to these rapes since it has started. Every day, many girls and women have become victims of these crimes. The monsters and evils in the body of humans have been the reason for these crimes. Their lust has become more important to them than the moral human values. These evils have been satisfying their lust by committing these crimes against women. It is ironic that in the world where women are worshipped as goddesses, the crimes are committed against women.

The reason for the crimes committed against women is many. The main reason is the lusty behaviour of these monsters. Every woman looks like a sex object to these monsters. They satisfy their lust through these heinous acts. The second reason is that they don’t understand what consent means. This is one of the major reasons for rapes, especially marital rapes. These evils commit crimes against the consent of women. Maybe they had not heard the dialogue ‘no means no’. The patriarchy is also one of the reasons for the crimes against women. Some evils with a very much orthodox mentality or narrow-minded thinking feel it is ok to punish women with a crime like physical violence, verbal abuse, rape, etc when they go against the patriarchal norms. When a woman or girl does something which bruises the ‘ego’ of these monsters, they take revenge by committing such crimes to heal their bruised ‘ego’. Another reason is the lack of sex education (especially in India and other developing/ underdeveloped countries). They are curious about these things and as these things are often not answered, they take the way of committing rapes and other crimes to know the answers to their questions. Lack of sex education has also been a reason for lust, and eve-teasing in normal. There are bundles of various other reasons for these evils to commit such crimes.

The world has become very unsafe for women. The world is not only unsafe outside the home, but even inside it. As per a few surveys, more than strangers, women have been victimized by someone they already knew or trusted- family, relatives, friends or co-workers. The trusted people who would be expected to protect women have committed the crime against women. This has made the world unsafe for women- both inside the home and outside the home.

The crime against women not only makes them go through physical pain but also mental and emotional pain, which may last longer than physical pain or even lifelong. Being a victim of crime can make them go through depression, anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), having trust issues on people and humanity, etc. Even if they survive the crime, but the mental and emotional pain would always exist. She possibly may not be the same woman or girl anymore. She might get partly or fully reserved, have trust issues, etc.

These crimes need to be stopped for once and for all. We need to start teaching men and about respecting women and girls, defending them rather than attacking them, etc from both family and schools/ colleges/ workplaces. Proper and sufficient sex education should be given to kids and youths from family and schools, right from the age of 4. As these changes will not take fast, girls and women would need to learn at least basic self-defense and they should be empowered to speak against it rather than being silent and tolerating the crimes irrespective of how close or not that criminal is.

Together, we can bring this change and make the world a safer place for girls and women.
