Self
Self-respect. Self-love. Self-care. Self-worth. And many others.
Sometimes we humans forget about ourselves while in the company of other humans. Sometimes, we forget to respect ourselves, love ourselves, care for ourselves, and we forget our worth, under-estimate ourselves and whatnot.
Many a time, for the sake of saving relationships or for even our social image, we lose our self-respect. We let others treat us as they want. In the process of saving relationships, we end up losing our respect. We need to remember that people who truly love us will not make us choose between love and respect. They will respect us for the person we are and love us at the same time. By having self-respect, I don't mean you need to be egoist about yourself, but just respect yourself for the person you are. We must learn to respect ourselves as others can't respect us if we cannot respect ourselves. We need to be selfish enough to have our self-respect as it is over everything, even love. Respect is the foundation of love, and love cannot exist without respect. Distance yourself from people who disrespect you.
Self-love is also as important. One needs to love themselves for just the way they are. Just like self-respect, only when one can love themselves, they can love others and so others can love that person back. Love yourself. Appreciate your positive qualities and accept your negative ones (and also keep improving yourself). Love yourself for who you are, in spite of what other people have an opinion about you. Loving yourself is not only a priority but a necessity. Do not wait for others to love you. They will come into your lives and love you when they would be destined to enter into your life. But start loving yourself first. Happiness lies within you. Start loving yourself, start caring for yourself and you will feel that internal happiness. Love yourself and love others.
Caring for oneself is nothing selfish as what people think of it. You need to pamper yourself. Care for yourself. Take care of yourself before you take care of others as only when you can take of yourself, you can take care of others. Caring for yourself first is nothing selfish, but a necessity. Practice a healthy lifestyle. Have your own 'me time' in which you do what you love to, be it nurturing your hobby, or playing games and sports, being alone with yourself, or just sleeping. Take yourself on dates. This all will help keep yourself healthy and happy.
Know your own worth. Believe in yourself and your works. Do not let others' opinions define you or your worth. Let them enjoy their judgement, you stay at peace with your truth. They have not lived your life, so their judgements on your situations (which shaped you with time) and you does not matter. Know your self-worth. People who truly love you will give their point of view, but would never judge you or under-estimate you.
Respecting yourself, caring for yourself, believing in yourself is very important for your health (mental, physical, emotional and spiritual) and happiness. Doing all these is not selfishness, but a necessity.
